I would hear about the "firewall" everywhere especially in movies, tv shows, or books. Always hackers saying "the firewall is uncrackable" after clashing their fingertips on the keyboard for 15 seconds to then say "I'm in". I never understood what this wall of flames really was until 1.4.3. That video and the upcoming lessons made me understand not only what it was but it's purpose. A security system that restricts internet traffic within a private network.
Glad 1.4.3 educated you on what a firewall is :-)
ReplyDeleteFirewall is definitely a necessary part of cybersecurity!
Fun Fact: the word Firewall is named after a physical wall in a building whose purpose is to slow the spread of fire. That image helped me better understand what a firewall was in Cyber Security.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about hackers cracked me up. But I agree, in the movies they make it seem so easy... right? But after the recent event in our city, with MGM's internal system being hacked and all the data stored compromised you can't help but wonder how vulnerable we really are.
ReplyDeleteI also didn't truly understand what it was until this lesson as I always knew it was there to protect our systems but never how or what it really was.
ReplyDeleteThat what they said about MGM firewall it is hard to crack and look what happened we still under cyber attack but still firewall are good to have.
ReplyDeleteGreat depiction and example of what a firewall is. I always heard that term but never quite got the concept, i'm sure firewalls are very important when it comes to large companies.
ReplyDeleteMovies always include those corny scenes, but it's also make the movie much more exciting.
ReplyDeleteFirewalls are amazing tools, without them I am not sure the internet could be what it is today without them. Privacy is and should always be top priority in any given system.
ReplyDeleteFirewalls prevent malicious software from accessing your network or computer over the internet. A must-have to protect your information.
ReplyDeleteI still like to think of a huge, blistering wall of flames protecting my information - it just sounds cooler!
ReplyDeleteThe real question here is who is buying those firewalls in shows and movies if they only last 3 seconds against attacks.
ReplyDeleteHaha.
DeleteThose movie scenes are pretty funny to watch, but I do agree with what you say.
ReplyDeleteUntil I learned from LabSim, I also had no clue what exactly Firewalls do, it's always important to know what you are using for what purpose.
ReplyDeleteI didn't understand it either when I heard it in movies, but Labsim helped me understand how it works and its importance.
